What is llms.txt?
llms.txt is a proposed standard (llmstxt.org): a Markdown file at the root of your site that gives large language models a short, curated map of your content. It starts with your site name, a one-line summary, and then sections of links with short descriptions.
Where robots.txt says what crawlers may access, llms.txt says what is worth reading. AI tools and agents that support it can find your key pages faster and summarize your business more accurately. It is cheap to add and does not affect classic SEO.
How to use the generator
- Enter your site address. We read your sitemap (or homepage links) and the title and description of up to 20 key pages.
- Review the draft: fix the summary, rename sections and add notes where they are missing. The validator updates as you type.
- Download llms.txt, upload it to your site root and run “Validate my /llms.txt” to confirm it is live.

Do ChatGPT, Claude or Perplexity use llms.txt?
Support is still growing. Some AI tools, agents and developer platforms read it, and many documentation sites publish one. Major AI search engines have not committed to it, so treat it as a low-cost addition next to good structure and open crawler access.
Where do I put the file?
At the root of your domain, so it opens at https://your-domain/llms.txt, served as plain text or Markdown.
What is llms-full.txt?
An optional companion file with the full text of your key pages in one Markdown document, for tools that want everything at once. llms.txt itself should stay short.
Does llms.txt replace robots.txt or the sitemap?
No. robots.txt controls access, the sitemap lists every URL for search engines, and llms.txt is a curated summary for language models. Keep all three.
